Head Soup” (Nu NuLAX NuLAN/SONORE/XERXES)
Weird. Just weird. When I spotted this
release in my review bundle with its weird collage cover image it made me think
of Butthole Surfers album covers. This had me expecting something odd but not
like this. Billboard Heard Soup is a two disc compilation of covers of classic
80’s and 90’s Billboard Chart hits. I’m something of a sucker for cheesy pop
music so I knew this would be a fun ride. This compilation also has what is
quite possibly the greatest band name in the history of music: Satanicpornocultshop.
This compilation
has got it all from the easily-recognisable, melodice rendition of Madonna’s
Material Girl by Xper.Xr to the distorted scream fest of Barom One doing
Thriller, to faithful electro-beat of Relax covered by Francky Goes to
Hollywood. Satanicpornocultshop’s Get Ur Freak On is one of the best tracks on
the album. It’s funky, funny, and kinda odd. My wife and I have been playing it
to all our friends. Satanicpornocultshop are one of the artists on Billboard
Head Soup that I’ll be seeking out more material by. My absolute favourite
cover on this album is Morangak by Carl Stone. The track is an amazing exercise
in audio looping. There’s an almost schizophrenia-inducing quality to the
looping sounds as artificial voices are projected into the listener’s brain. It
is only when the loops being to fade out that the identity of the song being
covered is revealed and it wasn’t even close to the song I’d guessed it was
during my first listen. This piece impressed me both as a cover and as a piece of
music in it’s own right.
Across the 40
tracks on Billboard Head Soup there are not tracks that I would consider
filler. This is an impressive achievement. The other impressive feat is that
this compilation survives the novelty period. Once I’d got over the novelty of
the weird covers I found myself wanting to go back and listen to the album just
for the quality of the music. I can imagine this CD being great to stick on at
a party, which isn’t something I’d say about most of the stuff I’ve reviewed
for Heathen Harvest so far. If you’re a fan of weird experimental stuff or
you’re just looking for something different I’d highly recommend Billboard Head
Soup.

コンピレーションCDが送られてきました。そういえば昨年１曲つくって参加したのだった。80-90年代のポップスにオマージュを捧げる…というか料理しまくる２枚組CD。このボリューム自体が、量がそのまま質に転化し得るポップスというジャンルのマス・イメージを象徴してると言っても過言ではない。（いや過言だ）当方はデビッド・ボウイの「レッツ・ダンス」をテーマに、ダンスミュージック（嘘）をつくった。詳しくは言えないが、とにかく、かなりデンジャラスな企画なので、よもや回収騒ぎや訴訟になる前に、店頭で見かけたらすぐ買ってくださいねー。と言っても発売日は４月１日。まだ１ヶ月も先ですが。タネを明かせば、SONOREのレーベル仲間でもある"SATANICPORNOCULTSHOP"の仕切り。彼らのWEBLOGにさらに詳しい情報が掲載されているので、ぜひご覧を。（Wono Satoru）

YukoNexus6参加の超コンピレーションアルバム
大阪を足場に世界を股にかけるサタニックポルノカルトショップ（サタポと略す）が「ビルボードのヒット曲をぐしゃぐしゃにリミックス！」というごきげんなプランを発案。それに悪のりでのっかったのがYuko他、Carl Stone、ヲノサトル、ドラジビュス、ジューシーパニック、森本アリetc...のアーティストたち。当初の「アホなカバーソング」も、「ビルボードのヒット曲を再構築することにより、アメリカ的価値観支配によるポップカルチャーの波及の意味を考察する」といった仰々しいものに変化。２枚組2400円。懐かしいあの曲、この曲が、ほんまぐしゃぐしゃにされている様を聞いて引き笑いしてみまへんか？ 日本版の発売は４月１日（エイプリルフール！）ですが、オンラインショップでは先行発売。

ヨーロッパで話題沸騰の変態ブレークビーツ・エレクトロニカ、Satanicpornocultshop主宰によるコンピレーション第二弾。今回はUSAヒットチャートを賑わす無茶苦茶メジャーな曲ばかりを不吉にカバーしたコンピレーション二枚組CD。Xerxes側からはContagious Orgasmの We are The World、バロムワンのスリラー、S.Isabellaの現音的アプローチを試みたA-Haのカバー、そして初のパワエレ・トラックとも言えるGovt.AlphaによるMr.Robot/Styx等。他にCarl StoneやYuko Nexus６等,ボリュームたっぷりの２枚組コンピ。ちなみにハーシュノイズはGovt.Alphaのみです。
